Started to be slow the other day

I have a client who's XP Professional Computer opened programs normally last
week. Now this week, all the programs open very slowly.

Sometimes you have to wait 90 seconds for the control panel to open or any
other program you try to run.

Norton is installed an I have checked the computer for Spyware using
LavaSoft and AVG.

The CPU usage is normal.

What should I look for?

What process(es) are occupying the majority of CPU time during the
delay? That could be your first clue.

You said the CPU usage is normal?
How old is the PC, and how frequent it is used?

I got a laptop (1 and half year old), used frequently, CPU normal, but very
slow. It took 3-5 minutes to open a program, and sometimes even run the
program that I didn't run. It appeared it was the hard disk problem. I
replace it and it runs normally now.

Why don't you try to defragmenting the hard disk that windows is installed
on? To defragment the hard disk just click Start > All Programs > Accessories
System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. When the disk defragmenter window is open
just click the defragment button. hope this helps.

Although defragmenting can't hurt, it's *highly* unlikely that fragmentation
could account for programs opening normally one week and then taking 90
second the following week.

Despite his having done some checking, Bikini Browser should still consider
the possibility of malware infestation. I recommend Malke's Malware Removal
site at
