Like the Doctor said to the patient when he told him his arm hurt when he
does this. Doctor sez, don't do that.. (Start with disc in drive that is)
I think if you only have one cd drive and it is set in the bios to be the
one you boot from (where the bios is directed to boot from the drive 'as if'
you had a bootable disc in it, such as Windows XP ) it will do this. I have
2 CD burners on different IDE cables and make 1 the bootable so i don't have
that problem, although at times when i put a JPEG disc in the drive i get a
Windows message upon reject, that sez something like, "files have been
replaced with files not recognized...bla bla, do you want to keep these
files bla bla or otherwise insert your XP Home Edition disc to replace these
files.. bla bla. normal XP system message.
I have ben told this is a 'bug' in XP, as opposed to a real problem, and
nothing else actually happens, i simply clik yes, i want to keep these files
and proceed without incident (it doesn't happen every time)
Considering how very stable XP is overall, i can accept this little
annoyance.... Check your BIOS settings and see if this tells you anything..
The BIOS should be set to be able to boot from the cd rom or burner, as the
first drive, that is, of course, if you want to be able to boot from the XP
disc in event of that need (are you running XP?) you didn't say(?) Always
provide full info on OS etc... No, i am not a Microsloth MVSP, just a guy
who loves XP and has had his share of similar glitches....

sometimes when i start up my computer and i have a disc in the drive it
will stay at the black screen with the blinking cursur and the disc drive
will keep reading the disc until i open the drive and then it will start up
normally.
