I was doing a windows xp update but it was taking a while so i decided to
cancel it. My computer then crashed so i re-started it, however as it was it
stopped before the main xp start screen ( so still booting up) at the point
saying " verifying pool data" i now cant do anything. i left it on for about
2 hours but nothing and left it off over night but still nothing and just
stops at that message, any ideas please?

This indicates a lack of the boot sector files. Boot to xp setup CD, press
'r' for recovery console, run the command:

FIXBOOT
