start Up problem

Debbie

When I turn on the computer get black screen which goes to desktop. No logo,
Windows XP or Welcome.Does not happen at re-start

db

at the black screen press
ctrl alt delete

then launch new task:

explorer.exe

if the above works out then
it means there is a problem
loading the registry hive into
memory.

might try running this:

Does everything work when you get to your desktop?

did not work how?

did the task manager pop up
when you pressed ctrl alt del?

if so, then go to process tab
and kill explorer.exe

then go to new task and
try to launch explorer.exe

if the above doesn't work
then initiate a clean boot
from the desktop when you
reboot.

When I pressed Alt Ctrl Delete nothing happened. The screen remained Black as before.

ok,

then if the one care said your
system was fine and when you
reboot the desktop re appears,

then it won't be easy to find
what is stalling your system.

what I would do is to boot
into safe mode a couple of
times and see if your system
stalls on the first try.

simply hold down the f8 key
during boot up to produce the
diagnostic boot menu

then select safe mode and
see if you get the black screens
or not.

Thought you would like to know that I found the problem. It was the monitor
that was bad. Got a new monitor and everything is working fine.

db

glad to hear you found
the problem!
