What are you referring to with "on the 3000 series"?As to the rest of
that sentence, I assume you are referring to removing/inserting check
marks in the program start up blocks within the "Startup" Tab of the
System Configuration Utility. Leave the stuff under the other Tabs alone
until you know more about it.
If you mainly use your computer for E-mail and Internet browsing, you
could limit Startup to your Firewall and Anti-Virus Programs, plus
Windows XP. If you have other small things you want present at Startup
[I have both am Alarm Clark and a small reminder program (give the dog a
heart worm pill; buy Susan's birthday present today, etc,) check mark
them. Programs that only receive occasional use should be removed from
Startup.
Your computer usage figures heavily in your Startup decisions. For
instance if you only use your computer for bookkeeping for a business,
you must consider that in your decision. One thing you must remember is
that the more programs you allow to load at Startup, the slower Startup
becomes. Another thing is that every program provider attempts to put
that program in the Start Menu, so you must exercise some control.
As to Ctrl-Alt-Delete, that just brings up the Windows Task Manager
which reflects the current running programs/processes/services. You can
use it to shut down (close) programs if you have problems with the
regular method BUT that will not remove them from the Start Menu. Leave
the processes/services alone until you know more.
Hope this helps!
