start the Default Web Site/IIS

Problem: the Default Web Site of the IIS could not be
started.
Operating system: Windows 2000 Prefetinoal
What happened: I installed/activated one of the Windows
components--the Internet Information Service(IIS), but the
status of the Default Web Site was Stopped, I right-
clicked on it and selected Start, 30 seconds later, the
Internet Service Manager gave me a massage: "The service
did not respond to the start or control request in a
timely fashion." I uninstalled and reinstalled the IIS,
and restarted the computer, still the status was Stopped,
and has no response to the "Start" option.
By the way, the other Internet services like Default FTP
Site and Default SMTP Virtual Server are indicated as
Stopped, too, and none of them could be started.
Where is the problem? Please help. Thanks!
