Start-run menu stops working....

I'm at a loss on this one. On my system (XP SP2, Dell D600 notebook) When
I'm running the XP-style start menu, and try to "start / run" to execute a
command line program, nothing happens. No dialog box appears and the start
menu just hides. To make it even more bizarre, this does not happen if I
use the "Windows Classic" style of start menu. The same thing happens to
the help and search menus as well. Finally, if this were not yet bizarre
enough, it appears to work for a few minutes right after boot, but
eventually it goes away.

I've been using msconfig to try and find out what offending code might be
causing this, but nothing consistent so far.

Any ideas? Its not like I can't use my system or anything, but its one of
those annoyances that I just HAVE to fix or I'll go nuts.

Thanks!

Click start > run > type in: "command" without quotes then type in the
command.

I must not have made myself clear. The issue is that the dialog box that
you would normally type "command" in never shows up on my screen. There is
no place to type the command!

Right click the taskbar, click Properties > Start menu > Customize >
Advanced (tab) under start menu items > scroll down and make sure that "Run
Command" is checked. Press OK > OK

Also, try using Windows Key + R

Sure is. I've checked the obvious stuff....

Hi,

Run msconfig, put the system in diagnostic mode. Reboot. Does the problem
continue? If it does not, then re-enable one startup group at a time,
rebooting between each until it returns. Once you know which group it is in,
then you will need to narrow it down by selectively disabling different
sections of that group.

Are you running the application "World Time" on your system? If so read on...

I just ran into the same problem. I have been using World Time v5.5.2.748
with XP for years with no problems. I recently enabled the "Titlebar Clock"
feature of WT. As soon as I did, the "Run.." & "Search" apps on the "XP"
style start menu stopped working. Once I disabled the "Titlebar Clock"
feature and rebooted the system, the "Run.." & "Search" apps started working
again on the "XP" style start menu! So I can still use WT...I just can't use
the "Titlebar Clock" feature.
