Start Run Dialog Launch Delay

Hi

Recently my laptop (XPProSP2 Centrino Duo) is taking a long time to launch
programs, files and URLs from the Start Run Dialog. And I quite often get an
error with "There was a problem sending the command to the program".

I have checked all the usual suspects, spyware, adware, viruses, etc, etc.
and everything seems to be OK.

Can anyone offer a suggestion where I should go from here, short of
reinstalling XP?

Hi Barry,

Are you using Zone Alarm firewall?

No, I'd seen that info earlier following a Google search. I *have* tried ZA
previously but have carefully tried to remove all traces following the
instructions from the ZA web site.

I'm now using the built in Windows firewall for the moment.

Barry,

This has to do with Zone Alarm blocking Windows Explorer from accessing the local machine zone. The remnants of Zone Alarm may be lying somewhere in the registry. Perhaps you can post this in ZA forums to see if anyone there has an idea.

Alternately, reinstall Zone Alarm, remove all entries from "Program Control" tab, and then uninstall Zone Alarm.

Hi Ramesh

I'll give that a try. I've used ZA for many years (back to Windows 3.1) but
recently I created myself a VPN connection to my Office network and I haven't
been able to stop ZA blocking connections to my Office network. That's why I
removed it.

Thanks
