Terry Franklin

Hello all, new problem today, just started this evening. I'm running Windows
XP Home and have two accounts on the machine and this problem only happens
on one account. Up until this evening both accounts have run correctly, and
to my knowledge nothing has changed.

The problem is as follows:

I log into this account, and if I go to for example Start->My Documents, the
taskbar disappears for a moment, and then reappears, and some of the task
bar components appear to reload. It's much like an explorer crash of old.

The same happens if I go to start->My Pictures, or start->control panel. I
have no problem if I go to start-><anything on the left, like Microsoft
Word.

The same also happens if I go to start->run and enter c:\

If I go to start->run and enter a web site, like www.cnn.com, that executes
correctly.

My other windows xp account on the same computer does not exhibit this
problem.

Basically, going to start and the following makes explorer crash:

My Documents
My Pictures
My Music
My Computer
My Network Places
Control Panel
Search
Run (followed by c:\*)

Whereas going to start->favorites, or start->help and support, or
start->connect to all work correctly.

Please advise!

Hi Terry,

Run both of the edits on line 157:

If that doesn't help:

Control/Alt/Delete - When the Windows Task Manager dialog box appears, go
to Processes, find Explorer.exe highlight it and choose End Process.

Keep the task manager open then select the File menu and then New Task
(Run). When the Create New Task dialog box appears, type in Explorer and
press the OK button. Windows Explorer should restart complete with the
Taskbar and Start button.

If still nothing: Go back to the Task Manager/File/New Task and type in
msconfig. On the General Tab choose Expand File.

Or go to Start/Run and type in CMD:
expand x:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe

Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar (Line 195)

You are welcome, Terry. Would you happen to have Xupiter or Hotbar
installed or the similar? That behavior has been known to occur if you do.
I have removal scripts for them, if so.

Either way, good luck!
