The "fade effect" would likely be video card,memory (or lack of),or page file
settings.Try run,typeXDIAG Run the Direct X tests,set page file (virtual
memory)
to "let system adjust" instead of custom its now in,add memory if not up to
par,
replace video card if needed or delete boards video if now running.

Try this: go to Display Properties (via control panel or right-click an open spot on the desktop and select Display Properties from the context menu). Select the Appearance tab, then click the Effect... button in the lower right. From that window you may uncheck Use the following transition effects etc. or select the effect desired.
