Start Menu Entries

Hi

I have XP Pro with one user account with full administrative priviledges. I
always used the same account.
Some of the listed Start Menu>All Programs are in C:\Documents and
Settings\My\Start Menu and some in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu.
All are featured in My Start Menu>All Programs, but In order to organise
them I have to have open both folders and drag them across. Curious. Why is
this? Why are they not all in C:\Documents and Settings\My\Start Menu?

A lot of programs when installed gives you a choice, Me Only or Everyone
thus Me Only will be in your C:\Documents and Settings\My\Start Menu and the
Everyone is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu.

I'm not sure what you mean in order to organize you have to drag them
across. When you click Start_All Programs and slide your mouse over on
anything you should be able to right click and select Sort by Name.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

In all the 15 years I have used a computer I don't ever recall a program
giving me this choice. They have asked me where I would like the program to
be located but never account options.

What I mean by organise is, placing the various links in categories, eg
security, burning, games etc. Although I can move the links about by dragging
them and sort them in the start menu by right clicking, I can't organise them
into folders except in their respective start menus folders.

This is what has got me stumped.

Thanks again for the reply.

Just create folders called "Security", (etc.) in both All Users\Start
Menu\Programs AND <Your_Username>\Start Menu\Programs.
They will be "combined" as if they were a single folder when you view your
All Programs list.

Hi
Thanks for your input, I'm always amazed at how fast issues are addressed
which makes it really great if something happens to ones computer.
In this case though I was more interested into why something happens rather
than finding a work around.
My original question was why did programs have their links created in
different start menu folders when there is only one user. I suppose it's just
one of those mysterious things, that windows does.

Thanks again.
