User Accounts and Software Installation

Is it at all possible (assuming I reinstalled Win XP Home differently ... by
saying there are NO other users to share with, and by not entering any
names, whatsoever), to just have ONE single account on my computer (an
administrator account), and thats all?).

Thus ALL programs would (finally) install to that ONE account, instead of
some programs installing to:

"Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs",
while some other programs install to...
"Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs".
(as the wind blows, or it sees fit)

IOW, can Win XP Home possibly be set up with just one person (me, the
administrator) and NO user accounts, per se? IF so, we would get this:

Then there would only be...
ONE folder on the C: drive, for Start Menu,
and only ONE folder for Programs,
and only ONE folder for Desktop,
etc, etc, (just as one would normally expect for a single user home
system).

And ALL software would install to that ONE folder. It would make things a
lot simpler for me, anyways.

Thanks

No. There have to be two accounts with administrative privileges at least
(the Administrator account and one user account with admin privileges).
The latter user account is created automatically during Windows setup and
can be removed only after creating another user account with administrative
privileges.

Always use an additional *limited* user account when there are no admin
privileges required. "Applying the Principle of Least Privilege to User
Accounts on Windows XP"

Detlev - The OP has a long thread already going on where he's been told
this (by me and others). He's apparently come from Win9x/ME and is
having a hard time. I just finished replying to more of his questions in
the original thread - which he should go back to instead of starting
*this* one and further fragmenting the issue.

Best regards as always,

Thanks for this advice, Malke. I missed that thread apparently since I
skip all mega-threads usually w/o reading them.

Best regards as always,

Sorry. I added this here because I thought it was a bit more specific.
