Hi,
out of nothing my start menu suddenly contains all files and folders under
my user folder.

So, for example I now have folders in the start menu such as:
- Cookies
- Favorites
- UserData
- ...and some more

How can I correct it ?

BR,
Martin

Two ways to fix it:

Download TweakUI:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

and under 'My Computer' -> 'Special Folders' you can point the Start Menu back to the Start Menu folder in your user folder.

Or you can edit the registry directly. Start -> Run -> regedit. Navigate to:

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"

and modify the value of Start Menu.

With either method, you should also check to see if the 'Programs' and 'Startup' values have lost the Start Menu portion of their paths as well and modify them if necessary.

Good Luck,
Keith
