Start menu changes icon size automatically

Hello Everyone,

This might seem weird, but I have done clean installs.
Left off 3rd party apps, but still it seems that my start
menu will all by itself change the icon sizes and get
messy looking. I go into properties and either choose
small or large icons and then hit apply and boom
everything is back to normal for a few days. I am
running a P4 1.7GHz with 1gb ram, 256mb ati 9600 card and
72gb HD. XP Pro with all updates installed and nortons
antivirus.
