start button & taskbar not working

My Dell 4300S w/Windows XP has suddenly started acting
weird. After rebooting the computer the start button
does not work and neither does the start button key on
the keyboard. The task bar does not respond to right
clicks and if I go into control panel and click on start
button and taskbar it will not open. It is like it
doesn't even recognize the function. Any ideas? Feel
free to send me e-mail if you have any ideas? Thanks!
 
I'm having a problem of the same sort. The computer
starts up and the Windows XP screen comes up where we can
log on. When we do log on, only the background shows
up...nothing else...no task bar or anything. No programs
begin to load either. I was only able to get to the
internet by hitting ctrl+alt+delete at the same time and
browsing to open IE. If anyone can help it would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you...you can email me at
