Start bar missing PLEASE HELP!!!

i installed antispyware s/w (SpywareDetector) on my gf's laptop (Win XP).
when it 1st ran i quarantined all the flagged files and then rebooted. it now
has NO START MENU BAR - which includes the wireless connection icons so it
can't even go online.

so far i've:
1) ensured it wasn't just an unchecked option in "display"
2) looked in the log files for removed windows files
2) tried to contact the s/w company to no avail (SPYWARE DETECTOR SUCKS!!!)
3) tried to run the win xp "restore" program - but it doesn't seem to run
for some reason.

at this point i think i need to do a "reinstall" of win xp which will
reportedly replace all missing &/or damaged win files w/o erasing ancillary
s/w and files.

problem is i don't have the stupid win xp cd to do a reinstall from - they
don't give them out w/ new pc's anymore. how the hell can i get one? or are
there programs i can download that would replace bad/missing win xp files?

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Either read the literature that came with the computer or call the
manufacturer for the recovery procedures.

Are you running any of the following:

Ad-Awares Adwatch
Spybot Tea Timer
Spyware Blaster
Spyware Doctor
Norton Anti-Virus
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Zone Alarm (Free or Pro)

Hope this helps.
