Star Trek Armada II

Okay, so, I got bored playing World of Warcraft and decided to go back
to and old favorite, Star Trek Armada II. I installed the game fine,
got through the opening cinematics, but when I got to the main menu,
it was squished to the left side, and when I tried to press a button,
i could not, unless I went to where on the screen it should be.

That isn't the real issue, though. The real issue is when I go to
play, whether it be instant action or single player, whenever I built
a station or construct a ship, the game freezes for 5-10 seconds. The
same thing happens when I destroy an enemy ship or station. After the
5-10 seconds, gameplay resumes, as though nothing happened.

Someone, please, help?

I forgot my specs:

MSI P965 Neo-F motherboard
Pentium D 3.00 GHz
Western Digital 7200 RPM HD
GeForce FX 5500 256 MB PCI
DirectX 9.0c

Latest drivers for everything.

Hi [email protected],

Hardware issues can cause freezing, black screens and other
errors. Also, your drivers should always be kept up to date.

Try the following steps one at a time to try and resolve the issue.
I hope this helps. Please post back if you have any questions! :)

1. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a
Checklist of Solutions at: http://NibblesNbitsVideo.tk

2. Dust your fans, vents and components using a 1/4" paintbrush
and a hose vacuum. Use compressed air for hard to reach places.
Set a housefan to blow cold air into your case to expose an over-
heating issue.. If it works add more fans or replace defective ones.
Use this Motherboard Monitor Utility: http://mbm.livewiredev.com

3. A faulty power supply can cause STOP errors, random reboots,
and black screen lockups. One way to test for that is to check the
wattage sticker on your power supply and then calculate your need
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ (Min. 350 for gaming)

4. Test your RAM using: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

I did all of the things you said to do.

My RAM is working perfectly.
I have power left over from my power supply.
All of my video and sound drivers are up to date.
I reinstalled DirectX 9.0c
I reinstalled Star Trek Armada II.

Same problem. I don't think its hardware, I think its software-based.

Should I contact Nvidia or Activision?

Hi Ritz,

I was fairly certain it was a hardware issue, however
if this is the only intensive game that freezes, you may
have a point and it may be the software (game) itself.

I upgraded to patch v1.2, and while the menu issue has not been
resolved, the game is now at least playable in other regards. I still
have to mouse over where the button would be, rather than where it
appears, to click it, but the game no longer freezes or has any of the
previous issues.

I guess, until a v1.3 patch is created, the patch v1.2 does make the
game playable with a bit of work. I'll post back further if I find out
any further fixes.
