Star Trek Armada I & II on a Windows XP system with NVIDIA graphics ...

Folks,
Has anyone managed to get Star Trek Armada (I or II) working on an XP system
with NVIDIA graphics cards? I have been searching an trying but get no joy.
I have all the latest maintenance for both the games and the cards and
DirectX. When I try and start the games, a splash screen comes up for a
second and then disappears.

I tried running the game on a different computer (also XP) but with a
different graphics card (not NVIDIA) and it worked fine. Reading the
postings, it seems that NVIDIA cards are the culprit but no-one seems to
have a posted answer. Any clues folks?

Hi Neil,
These are run on a regular basis here in the apps compatibility lab,
there are a few bugs in them, but none show them as not running. Are your
video drivers up to date? Have you tried compatibility mode? Does your
failing machine happen to be an AMD?
You might send in a copy of your dxdiag information on the troublesome
machine. At run line type dxdiag > run tests at tabs > save and post here.

Thanks for your post!

Hi Neil,

If nobody who has the same game and configuration as you
answers before you read this, you may want to look at the
readme file in your game's directory (there's usually always
one) and see if it lists any command line switches you can
add to the shortcut to change the video settings for the game
in such a way that you could play it in safe mode, or failing
that, look at the .ini files to see if you can lower the video
settings (resolution) for the game.

Once you are able to get past the splash screen, it should
just be a matter of adjusting the video controls via the in-
game settings. Hope this helps solve that for you! :)

Hi! I run both games on my P4 with a nvidia ti4200. I have no problems with
Armada 2, but Armada 1 I have some sound problems which I have not found a
fix for.

Just so you know I had a AMD athlon 1gig system before my P4 and I had a lot
of problems with games on my AMD which have been solved by going to a P4
system (PS is your video card an MX version. I had a lot of problems with my
MX card as well on the AMD system.)

Good Luck
Colin
