I have a desktop running windows XP. It has worked for years. Several weeks
ago it stopped functioning. If I recall there was a yellow light indicating
it was in standby mode. Now there is no light and the computer actually shuts
down instead. Now, moving the mouse to wake it up no longer works. Could it
be a hardware problem instead of Windows? There was a trojan horse on the
computer that was found and removed.

Moving the mouse will not wake it up after proper Standby, you must press a
key or click a mouse button. Also all the computer lights should turn off
during standby (my 2 do anyway). But yes, if you are properly selecting
standby from the Shut down menu, a hardware or Windows could be at fault.
