standby/hibernate - laptop is dead

hi,

i have a laptop with winXP Home, everything worked fine so far. today, the
laptop turned to standby or hibernate modus (i don't know exactly, it's the
machine of a colleague) and it is dead now.

the fan is running, turning on and off does not work, also ALT+TAB and
discharging the battery (worked ages ago with win98) did not work. the
laptop cannot be rebooted anymore, the screen is always black,
mousemovements and pushing on keys do not change anything. no BIOS is coming
up, no "beep" when turning on, so, i cannot use the protected startup etc.

how can i make that laptop run again? what update can i _then_ install so
that this does not happen again?

best regards

arno

Unplug it, take out the battery, and go have a cup of coffee. Put the
battery back in, plug it in, and try turning it on. If that doesn't work, it
really is dead and needs to go to a repair shop.

Take the laptop to a repair shop to fix. Cause could be anything from
a dead battery or faulty power supply to something else!
