Standby Button Disabled

I'm using Windows XP Home. The Standby Button is disabled
and I cannot get it enabled. I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling ACPI under System Devices in Device Manager.
But the problem persists. Does anyone know, what could be
preventing the Standby Button from getting enabled ?

Try this , click start,control panel,power options,advance tab, scrol
down to shut off and standby options, should say shut down and standby.
