Standby and Hibernate options gone

about 2 months ago, the standby option stopped working properly, when the PC
went into standby, it actually shut itself down, nothing was changed apart
from the normal windows updates.
this week, I've noticed that the Standby option is now grayed out and the
Hibernate tab has disappeared form the power options properties. The problems
this week may have been a result of adding a PCI ATI Radeon 9200SE card

has anyone come across this or has any suggestions for either of the 2
problems ?

You need to install the latest ATI drivers:

downloaded latest catalyst from ATI, problem still persists
In adding the PCI card , I had to disable the onboard graphics ( Intel
82810E ) from device manager to get the PCI card working and as soon as I do
that, the option disappears.
When I enable the onboard intel graphics, the options are back.
I have the latest version of the intel graphics driver and the latest
version of the gigabyte bios.

MY machine specs
Packard Bell Pulsar
Pentium 3 866Mhz
512MB SDRAM
motherboard Gigabyte GA-6WMM

Well;you can't enable both the cards at a time.If the
Standby/Hibernation options come back after enabling Intel graphics then
it's just fine.
It seems you have problem with the PCI card. What happens if you
uninstall the PCI card and then reinstall. After that update the driver.
Does it help?

uninstalled, re-installed the latest ATI and intel drivers, didn't help.
Seems the integrated intel chipset graphics doesn't like being disabled.
