Standby and Hibernate (again)

Okay, so I posted this, or at least it went through, before. I was notified
someone had responded but when I clikcked the link to check the answer, I
found no sign of my posted question or the answer. Very strange. So here we
go again! I'm having a problem with my 'standby' and 'hibernate' settings.
Seems my computer will follow these settings when it sees fit. Standby is
set to, say, 10 mins. Hibernate set to, say, 15 mins. Yet my computer will
keep on keepin' on without adhering to that. Is there something running in
the background keeping it from "shutting down"? Am I just stupid and don't
know how to properly set the procedure? I'm pretty damn sure it's not a
virus problem. Maybe something's corrupt...I don't know. It's frustrating!
Help!

It would be wiser to search for your old message and replies to it, rather
than posting a new one. If the same thing happens you'll be in an infinite
loop.

If you can't find a post, search for it using Google Groups Advanced search.
Search on your name as author. This newsgroup is
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general. You can search all newsgroups, selected
ones, by keyword, subject, author and data.

You posted on 6/5 at 17:24 Pacific time with one response (by me).

One last thing, you might want to think about using a newsreader to access
what are actually Usenet newsgroups instead of the awful web interface. The
experience is much better. XP comes with Outlook Express. Here is a link
with info on how to set that up for newsgroup access.

I meant to include the link to Google Groups Advanced Search:

your settings suggest that
the system should go into standby
after 10 minutes of no activity, then by some
miraculous event it should come out
of standby all by itself and
go into hibernation mode.

maybe you should only use
either the standby or
the hibernation mode.

"standby" mode can be a handy
feature however anything in
ram memory that is "standing by"
will dissipate into infinity
upon loss of power.

hibernation is a better alternative
to safe guard your data because anything in
ram memory will be written to the
hibersys file on disk and your ram memory
will be reloaded with this data upon powerup.

a better alternative for a 10 minute standby
would be a screensaver.

a 10 minute wait time for a screensaver
along with a 15 minute wait time for
hibernation seems to be a better configuration.
