I performed an XP standard recovery so my data files were
not deleted. When I (the administrator) click on the non
deleted pre recovery administrators folder in explorer, I
get the message: "access denied". How can I gain access
to this locked folder. Thanks for the help

You need to take ownership of those folders and files. Go to help and
support and type in ownership or see this KB article:

Take Ownership of that folder. Login as Administrator from Safe mode (XP Home)
