Loss of the standby option is usually due to the installation of a
noncompliant driver. Did you recently update one, either from the update
site or from the manufacturer? If so, you need to "rollback" to the previous
version (use properties of the device in system properties/harware
tab/device manager).
If you recently installed a new piece of hardware, the driver that came with
it may not be sufficient. Check with the manufacturer for an update.
