Stand by mode alters performance

I have a solitare game that plays very slowly when initially opened. If I
enter stand by mode without closing the game and then return to normal
operations the game plays much faster. I believe that this is happening with
other applications as well but it is easiest to confirm with the solitare
game. What gives????????

I can think of only one thing. There should some program or a device that
gets disabled when you enter standby. When Windows is started normally this
program device gets loaded into memory leaving out less resource for your
other application like Solitarie. Best to check, boot in safe mode.

Restart the computer, press f8 access safe mode option and play solitarie to
see for yourself.
