stand by doesnt work

when i close lid on lap top it used to go into stand by, now it never shuts
off. went into display properties and monitor power and advanced and set all
the butons right but it still doesnt work, whats up with that?

When the lid goes down, it presses on a switch to do the standby. You might
look at that switch, to see if it is broken or out of adjustment.
