same problem as this post
By: Jeremy (search by author) In: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

So heres the deal...For about 3 or 4 days my computer has been running fairly slow, but Im not quite sure why. I defragged once, cleaned it of all viruses, and did a disk clean up. This is what's going on: whenever I seem to open a program, or IE for that matter, It seems to load fairly slowly, and will stall/freeze my computer for a few seconds...then itll open and work fine. It also happens to programs that are already running...for example...new IM's or changing to a media player to change a song...for some reason all these actions cause the computer to stall for a few seconds ( but not every time) Im just wondering if my computer needs a rest, or if there are any methods of fixing this issue..

If anyone knows how to help that'd be grea

Thanks a lot
Jerem

You may have an abundant number of startup programs. Clcik Start, then
click Run. Type msconfig and press enter. Click the startup tab, inspect
the programs that load on startup. If you see stuff that you know that
shouldn't load on startup, uncheck it's box.
