SSdiag issue on start up

A couple of days ago 2 boxes would appear on my screen once I had logged on
to my laptop. These I believe were DOS program jargon (black background with
white lettering) tittled DRCVdiag with a green and black medical cross in the
corner. After going through the usual help advice, going through msconfig and
getting a list of everything that is listed to start, I had to delete each
command on start up to find out where the conflict was. Anyway, in the end I
found it was something called SSdiag under the command C:WINDOWS\ssdiag.exe
and when this wasn't highlighted on start up no more boxes appearing. Now for
some this would keep them happy but obvi there is an issue espeicially when I
then noticed that all my sytem restore points had dissapeared, my wifi
locator couldn't locate and the remote assistance had been turned on! This I
always turn off!
It may be worth noting that I download a large amount from various sites a
month and all this is prob due to some low life who likes to mess around with
other peoples computer. But of anyone out there that has come across this or
has any idea what to do to this ssdiag to sort out my comp I would be
extremely grateful. And if you haven't noticed already I'm not the best
computer whizz around.
Thanks

ssdiag.exe :
It's a shared driver components used by Sonic DLA. If DLA is enabled you can
use it to burn information/Data to a CD, try to Disable the DLA from running
either on the Sonic Utility or from the services control Panel.

I recomend running a scan for malware & viruses from here:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm?s_cid=sah

Also you can remove it from start up:
Open a run command and type in:
regedit.exe click [OK]
On the Registry Editor locate this Key:
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run = Look in
the right Pane/Window and locate this service/process and Remove it.
Close the Registry Editor and Reboot your machine.
HTH.
