Hi all
I was fooled and stupidly installed SPYWAREGUARD and am still getting
"Error Reading SpywareGuard Definitions! etc."on my screen and am unable to
uninstall same. Have done so in the registry but can't uninstall from Program
Files. Appreciate if someone can advise of some freeware to uninstall it.
TIA.

MBAM will remove this Trojan-Rogue:

<http://www.malwarebytes.org/> If this works for you, an upgrade to
the paid version would have prevented the installation in the first
place and protect you in the future.

Spywareguard by Javacool Software is a perfectly good program. Is the
Spywareguard you have this one?:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

If so, it isn't malware at all! I have it installed on all my Windows
machines for over six years. It's an anti BHO program.

What did you do in the registry ? "Uninstall from Program Files " ;
not from Add and Remove in control panel ? Did you d/l and run , or
d/l , save and run ?

From the page you cited:

"Please note that the rogue programs called Spyware Guard 2008 and 2009
are not related to the legitimate security software named SpywareGuard
that is created by Javacool Software. The legitimate Javacool
SpywareGuard program has a DLL file named spywareguard.dll that is
located at C:\Program Files\SpywareGuard\spywareguard.dll. This is a
legitimate file and should not be deleted if found on your machine. In
fact, we recommend that you install SpywareGuard, from Javacool, in
order to further secure your computer. A tutorial on how to use this
program can be found here."

So I guess you are infected. Sorry, but I don't know how to remove it.

It isn't malicious, and it doesn't hurt to have it installed. But it
is a mistake to rely on it. It hasn't been updated in many years.

And since he's unable to install it, it's highly unlikely that he's
talking about the javacool program.
