Spyware

I am not sure if this the right group to ask this question, but I'll
try. I spent last night 3 hours or so to get rid of some spyware
and Hijack stuff. This since my dad complained his pc was getting
slow.

I submitted the latest version of Ad-Aware and till my surprise the
same shit (Istbar, XXXtoolbar, etc.) was popping up, which I removed
2-3 weeks ago. By searching the web, I found people with the same
problems and based on what I read I was eventiually able to get rid
of the stuff downloaded mostlikely with "Internet Washer Pro", which
he downloaded by accident.

I also removed Gator which is nasty stuff. Anyway, in one of the
article it was mentioned to install also SpywareGuard, which I just
did and it looks slick. But my question is:

Do I really need to have all these 3 programs:
- Mcafee Anti-virus (Yes)
- Ad-Aware
- SpywareGuard

Does anybody have any experience with SpywareGuard?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!!

Ellen

I suggest using all three. I've not used SpywareGuard, but I have used
SpywareBlaster from the same company. Both Adaware and SWB can be configured
to run as needed rather than load at bootup. SWB is more a pro-active
approach as it attempts to prevent the installation of spyware/adware in the
first place.

If you use 'spybot search & destroy' (free, from security.kolla.de,
iirc) you can 'immunize' IE6 again common downloaded spyware, which
avoids it getting there in the first place.
