Windows Spyware Message!

O

oceanmaster66

All of a sudden this morning my computers background changed to black and
displays the following message:

"WARNING! Spyware threat has been detected on your PC

Your computer has several fatal errors due to spyware activity

Your IP address is #IP# and via this address an unauthorized access was
gained by another computer. It is strongly recommended to install an
anti-spyware software to close all security vulnerabilities."

I tried running ZoneAlarm and Ad-Aware but they would just lock up. I
rebooted into Safe-Mode and was able to run them. Ad-Aware Pro detected 29
items, I rebooted and still have the same message appear. Also, the computer
will not run any programs in normal mode, only in Safe Mode.

Any suggestions to eradicate this stuff or do I need to do a re-install of
XP Pro??

Thank you for your time

Mike

It's a worm. It's a scare tactic used to get you to download the worm. My
daughter had the same thing, except she ended up with the worm on her
computer. Downloading and running Spy Doctor from the Google Pack was the
only thing that fixed it even though she had other spyware software running
on her computer. You're probably okay now unless it actually was successful
in installing itself on you computer. If you think it was installed, search
for Google Pack on the internet and install and run Spyware Doctor. It's
pretty comprehensive - at least it took care of the worm on my daughter's
computer. Good luck.

One more thing, the computer will not access the internet at all.

You could run a bunch of anti spyware programs, anti virus programs,
check out the registry and still have a problem. The time it would take
to do this would probably be longer than reinstalling XP which *will*
solve it. I trust you have your data backed up.
