OT: SpywareGuard un-install/upgrade problems

S

Steve N.

Apologies in advance for the OT subject. I've searched the Wilder
Security forums to no avail, perhaps someone can advise on these two issues.

1. On several XP/2K machines I have had a terrible time un-installing
SpywareGuard. It will un-install using the Administrator accounts but
still be present for other user accounts, attempts at un-installing it
again using the other user accounts is fruitless; the program does NOT
fully un-install and produces errors at startup about not finding its
files (sorry, do not have specific filespecs handy).

2. I upgraded from version 1.x to 2.x recently (which indicated it was
un-installing version 1.x in the process) and the red SG icons for both
versions now show in system tray. Add/Remove Programs only shows the
latest version, there is no un-install I can find in Programs menu. In
Task Manager there is only one instance of SpywareGuard Control Panel
running.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Steve

I found the solution, at least for #2 and probably #1 as well. I had to
un-install version 2.x from Add/Remove Programs, manually delete all
folders & files associated with both versions of SG, remove registry
entries for both versions, then prevent the OS from attempting to load
SG using MSConfig. I elected not to re-install SG; it is as difficult to
remove as some malware is. At least I didn't have to do it all in Safe Mode.
