Spyware?

Hi all

i ahve just installed Sygate personal firewall and i have a Norton
antivirus running..

do i also need the Spybot ? or are these 2 sufficient?

Yes you still need to use Spybot and Ad-aware. Firewalls and anti-virus
programs don't stop spyware.

yes they do because my norton ant-virus caught a file and it was spyware so
antivirus programs recognise spyware but they may not be able to delete it
but they can still detect it.

What was the spyware it supposably caught? Are you sure it wasn't a trojan?
They are different things. Nortons AV does not do spyware as far as I know
and I used it up untill 2002 version.(maybe the new versions?)

catch it, when you went to a website or when you were installing something?

folder my file sharing program that software must have spyware

we seemed to have gotten alittle off track here.It would
be best to install both spybot search and destroy as well
as lavasofts ad-aware Even if your new anti virus does
detect spyware these programs will be updated at
different times,spyware is on a fast pase right now with
new programs developed almost daily

It's a pretty large leap of faith to believe that AV software will recognize
as much spyware as dedicated spyware detection/cleaner apps.

The capture of one piece of spyware by AV software doesn't make it a proven
performer. I hope that you don't see it that way either.

Good point. I wouldn't rely on this new detection in the antivirus programs
100% either. Even different spyware removal programs have varying rates of
success with parasites. In other words, what one doesn't find, another
program may pick up.
