Spyware tries to write to read-only memory, can't start XP

How do I remove this kind of spyware if I can't load the full version of
Windows? Right now, all I can do is get to the desktop in safe mode. The
spyware is detected by Adaware anytime I boot up the system and arrive at the
desktop -- only I get BSOD and a message saying that there was an attempt to
write to read-only memory. This is sort of a vicious circle. How do I get
out of it?

Your anti-spyware software will work in Safe Mode. In fact, that's the best
way to use it.

It would be helpful to read the following information…
“How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP”
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

Please download, install and update the following software...

* SpyBot Search and Destroy v1.4
http://security.kolla.de/

After the software is updated, I suggest scanning the system in Safe Mode.

Does this happen even when you startup in Safe Mode?

If you can get to the desktop okay in Safe Mode then run AdAware from
there to cleanup the spyware.

Better still boot to "safe mode with networking" and then go to one of
the following free online scanner sites to cleanup your system:
Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Kaspersky Online Scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
WindowSecurity.com TrojanScan http://windowssecurity.com/trojanscan

Good luck
