spyware problem

I have a PC that suddenly, when you open IE, 4 other IE windows open
with pages like metareward.com, gsassistant, all spam sites. I've run
Adaware, Windows Defender, Spyware Blaster, and another program called
Bazooka scanner (which actually doesn't seem to work) and still it's
happening. I don't know what else to do or what else to look for.
WOulnd't there be a certain process running or registry entries I can
delete? I just don't know what to look for exactly.

I have found that it is a long process to remove these types of things.
Here are a few hints that I have used.
Im sure that many of the spy programs are good. Everyone has their
favourites. I like spybot. Enable advanced and inoculate your system.
This stops future problems.

Try running Spybod or other scan programs in in safe mode.

I do find that spy stopping programs some times stop programs half way
through their installs thus removing them is sort of hard because all
of the registry settings etc are not there and throw them off becasue
what is there is not the full install.

Try Control Alt Del (XP I hope you are using) Look at the processes
that are running. enter each one into the internet that you dont know
anything about. Its possible some of these are spy type programs and
that is why the spyware programs cant kill the. Safe mode may prevent
these from starting so running spy scanners should work in this mode.
Finaly as far as my advice is concerted you seem to say you are using
IE4. Up grade upgrade upgrade. Thats old. MS for the good or bad have
implemented some fixes since ie4 to help slow these things down.
