Spyware or Virus?

Rolf

Hello:
I am running Windows XP Pro and am having problems
with Internet Explorer 6.0. I cannot browse without a
internet explorer popup window popping up saying "Spyware
has been dected on your computer" and then has a link to
a site selling spyware programs...now in addition to this
window I have Internet script errors popping up
simultaneously or right after the spyware popup...I have
running virus scans with AVG and Norton Antivirus
2003.....no virus detected....I have downloded free
spyware tools like Spykiller, SpySweeper, Adware 6.0,
Spyblaster and Spybot and none can get rid of this
problem....if you could help me I would appreciate
it....Thank you....Rolf

Rolf -
I can't help as of yet, but I am having the exact same
problems. One thing that's different is that I use Mozilla
Firefox as a browser, but I still get IE popups. I run
spybot, ad-aware, and McAfee, all to no avail. Ad-aware and
spybot can find new stuff all the time, but it keeps coming
back somehow after I remove them. I started compiling a
list of the sites where the popups originate from, so I can
maybe send them to Microsoft. Dunno what else to do. I have
2 firewalls up and spyware and virus programs up all the
time. Plus Firefox is supposed to block all popups. I am
looking vigorously into this as I am about to lose my
friggin' sanity over it. If I find out anything at all,
I'll let you know. Let me know if you hear anything -
Thanks - Dan.

I've been having the same problems since Friday.
Currently on the phone with Microsoft. Their Spyware
problem support is free - call 800-936-5700. They
transferred me to tech support for spyware, I"m still
holding - don't know if I'll actually get through. Give
them a call.
