strange virus/spyware

BILLW

I use WIN 98SE, IE 6.0 and OE 6.0.

For some reason when I go to my.yahoo (personalized part of yahoo.com)
netscape.net, the page momentarily appears but then is booted off and I get
page of links to some businesses and a pop up asking about spyware on my
system (believe this is trying to sell me something) The page is the same in
both instances. It looks like some form of spyware I guess.

I use updated Adaware, AVG, and a pop up stopper. and clean out my startup
folder so minimal programs startup after a reboot.

Apparently something is on my system causing this, any suggestions?

Step 1) Go to Add/Remove Programs and see if there is a
program installed which shouldn't be there. Write down its
name then remove it. NOTE: this will not remove all traces
of the program.

Step 2) Look on your hard drive for folders which have the
same or similar name to the program you just removed.
Remove that folder. There may be instances where you
cannot remove the entire folder or parts of it. Thats ok.
Step 3 will take care of that problem.

Step 3) Go into your registry and do a search for keys
which have the same name as the program you removed. You
don't have to put the whole name in, part will do. For
instance, if you had the Hotbar Toolbar you could simply
search for 'hotbar' (no quotes).

When you encounter a key which has your search requirement
look at the key carefully to be sure it has what you are
looking for. Delete the key. Hit F3 to continue your search.

When done searching reboot your system.

This is caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite)

Download, install, *update* and run these two programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items
listed in red.)
