Problem Removing Spyware Software from Internet Explorer 6.0

Hi:

My Internet Explorer 6.0 browser has been infiltrated
with spyware and adware software. This has changed the
toolbar and links on my IE browser and it's causing a lot
of popup ads to appear when I surf the Internet. At one
time it was even causing keyword searches in the IE
browser to be diverted to a little-known search engine,
too.

I utilized the Aluria Spyware Eliminator software and it
removed a number of spyware files, but my Internet
Explorer browser is still not back to normal.

I tried uninstalling Internet Explorer through the
Add/Remove Software feature in Windows XP, but despite
the fact that IE no longer appeared in that program
window, I was still able to browse with IE 6. I've since
reinstalled IE 6 through the Microsoft Web site also, but
the IE program still does not appear in the Add/Remove
Software window.

What do I need to do to get this spyware out of my system
and get Internet Explorer back to working as it normally
should?

Thanks.

Jim

Hi:

My Internet Explorer 6.0 browser has been infiltrated with spyware and
adware software.

Whatever you were using to block them is/was obviously ineffective and
they will come back as quickly as you eliminate them.
I suggest using a hosts file to block 99.99% of the malware and then
adding spybot and Ad-aware as additional protection.
The hosts file is found in many places on the net
Here is the one I use
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
It's been updated on Aug 16th.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow.
It blocks popups, ads, malware and other such junk.

Everyone should be using it. It's cheaper than commercial software and it
actually makes pages load faster, since the ads, popups and malware are
ignored immediately, rather than filtered.

Also, start your computer in Safe Mode (F8 key while booting up), and then
run Ad Aware and Spybot... in my experience, they will be able to detect and
remove more stuff in Safe Mode.
