Spyware messed up my computer

E

Elda

My computer was working very, very slowly and my DSL
provider suggested I check for SPYWARE on my system.
They advised me to go to Microsoft for the spyware they
offered there for free.

I downloaded the program and when it scanned my computer
for spyware it found 9 infections. It deleted 8 and
quarenteened 1. Then it asked me to set a time for a
daily scan, I did and then shut it down.

I immediatly went back to the internet and kept getting a
DNS error and could not log in. No internet no e-mail.

I tried to open up the BETA and nothing happened.
Nothing was working.

Anyone else out there have the same problem with the BETA
software?

More information, please! What version of Windows are you using and
what Service Pack is it running on?

Hi Elda,
Sorry for your troubles.
Use the method below which fits your OS version. If you are on XP SP2, use
the second method:

1) (winsock reset for 2k, xp pre sp2, and 2003 pre sp1)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817571

2) (Winsock reset for xpsp2)

netsh winsock reset

enter
restart machine.

After resetting Winsock, applications which have added themselves to the
stack will need to be reinstalled. These may include third-party VPN
clients, some McAfee privacy or network security related software, and
others--check what is working and what is not.

I had similar, loaded MS SPYWARE then pc would only boot
up, shut down, boot up shut down.
I was unable to uninstall the spyware so had to restore my
hard drive, my problem now is that if I enable the sound
drivers my system shuts down reboots shuts down reboots Im
sure you get the picture.
I have uploaded the updated the sound drivers but no good
as soon asd I enable then the pc starts playing silly
buggers again.

To say I am annoyed at this is an understatement
Microsoft IT helpline in India fantastic help until I
mentioned the word MS SPYWARE they couldn't help ??

Any Ideas
