Microsoft anti-spyware

I started my computer last night (12-01) and a msg appeared asking me if I
wanted to install the lastest upgrade to the anti-spyware. I answered yes.
The computer downloaded the upgrade, installed it and said to reboot to
finish. A reboot was performed and the computer has not started up correctly
since. The computer keeps looping. It looks like it is starting alright and
then goes back to the beginning. I can start it in safemode and I have
scanned it with antivirus and spyware programs. They found nothing. I
cannot remove the Microsoft anti-spyware program from safemode.

Anybody else had this problem after an upgrade? I am running Windows XP sp2.

Hello ,

Try using system restore.

Please ensure you are doing this under a Administrator accºunt.

After the restore. Shut down the computer and turn off the power. Wait for
at least 30 seconds, and then restart the computer in Safe mode or VGA mºde.

You can clear prefetch files by going to Start menu and Run and typing
prefetch, and then click OK.

Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp
Files and included all offline content then also go to start and run and type
%temp% and clear that fºlder.

Run the Disk Cleanup tººl
To start the Disk Cleanup tool, click Start, click run, type cleanmgr.exe in
the Open box, and then click OK.

Enable Hidden Files and folder's.

To enable hidden files and folders Go to Start then search > goto tools on
the top bar> then click Folder Options-> then goto the View tab.
Make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled.
Display the contents of system folders' is checked & 'Hide extentions for
known file types ' is not checked then press ªpply.
You can set this back later by opening the same page and pressing 'restore
defaults' then pressing ªpply,

HOW TO Enable Hidden Files:

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders, eg: c:\temp,
c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the
path to your temp folder will change depending on your name) - sometimes
programmes can be hidden in there - watch out for mysterious *.exe files or
*.dll files in those fºlders.
and c:\Documents and Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and delete all the files in those directories and
subdirectºries).

Run scandisk and defrag.

Reboot

Go directly to the download site and get it directly:

Engle,
Nothing you suggested worked. I finally went backed to the day of the
upgrade and searched all of the files that had been changed oe added on that
day. I deleted everything that pertained to MSAS. I then could get the
computer to boot up normally. I have not reloaded MSAS yet. I have other
anti-spyware installed. I am a little reluctant to relaod something that
cause such a problem. Thanks for the help. f18-dad
