SpybotSD and Adaware

J

Jeff

In the various reviews I've seen, SpybotSD seems to be always ranked higher
than Adaware (though both are recommended). I use both but am surprised at
the ranking because Adaware seems to have updates available 2-3 times more
frequently than Spybot and seems to pick up more spyware. Is there a reason
why Spybot seems to have less frequent updates?

SpyBot is a small project by a handful of people.

syybot company may just release the updates in timed
intervals, rather than adaware that does it consistently.
i personally like adaware to.

I believe the author of spybot has stopped development and updates on the
product. Too many big guys were stealing this little guys code. Too bad as
it was a nice product.
Adaware is created by a company, not just one person like spybot. I can't
even get to the spybot site anymore. Looks like it's dead.

SpyBot had stopped releases on ver 1.2 Version 1.3.5 with
several updates is now out and is available
www.safer-networking.org

SpyBot includes many features not in the free version of
Ad-Aware, including immunization and a file shredder.

I can't get to the site. This is what I get:
Connection to database server not possible!
Also last time I was on the site, about 1-2 weeks ago, I saw no news on a
new version. Did I miss something?

Mine does not update, but I still have version 1.2. I guess I missed the
version update to 1.3.5. Can't even get into the site now. Will try later.

I also cannot connect to the site at the moment. But it was available
yesterday so try again later. It took me a while to figure out that there
was a new version. I couldn't figure out why there weren't any updates for
so long. It would be nice to get a notice when you try to update that there
is a new version and you can't update the old.

Does not update to 1.3.5. Need to download the newer 1.3.5 installer and
remove the older one.

1.2 won't update anymore. Hasn't for several weeks that I know of. Last
I updated (last week) required at least 1.3.

I have version 1.3 I'll check for 1.3.5

I got the May 29 update. It is just the frequency that is less, probably
just because it is a smaller group. I was just curious.
