spybot freezes my puter

Have been using Spybot for about a year, and now, after my most recent
update, the scan goes on about three quarters of the way thru the
status bar, then freezes my system. Have to shut down and reboot.
Uninstalled, reinstalled...then noticed that there were only about
5800 entries listed to be scanned, but the scan went without a hitch.
Searched for updates, downloaded, then ran another scan. This time I
noticed there were more than 12,000 entries to be scanned.
Now, about three quarters of the way thru the scan...it stops, and
freezes my system again
I'm not a happy camper.
Anybody got an idea about this.

have you tried the new one? i use it with no problems. It is their newest
beta. been using it for 3mths now no problems
