Windows Freezing and Skipping

Hi,

I've Been having some trouble with my computer skipping and freezing every
couple of seconds. what will happen is the program(s) I am running will stop
responding for about a minute and if i am watching a movie or listening to
music it will skip and repeat the last second or two about 20 times before
freezing then continuing. It is getting impossible to do anything because of
the freezes and impossible to listen to any media content because of the
skipping.

I am on Windows Xp Home Edition

Ive scanned for ady/spy ware and viruses using the following programs

mcafee
spybot search and destroy
adaware
spysweeper
aol spware protectiion
spyware blaster

they have all come up clean. I have tried many many things but just cannot
findthe solution. any help would be apreciated. thank you

Are your audio & video codecs up to date, damaged or missing..?

Using MP10..? Video card drivers up to date..?
