Spybot does not find updates?

M

ms

I uninstalled Spybot 1.2 first.
I downloaded Spybot 1.3 about a week ago from the Spybot site, it does
not give me version details, but assume it is the 1.3 latest final (?)
version.

It opens like previous versions, but has the same problem as 1.2, it
will not find any updates. I have TeaTimer disabled. In Active Settings,
enabled "download updates". It searches for updates, none ever found.
CoMa noted a update several days ago, so there is one.

I tried to post to the Spybot forum, but after 10 minutes of
registering, it still will not let me post the question, so I'm asking
here.

What is the reason it does not find existing updates? And how to fix
it?

I don't know why, but Spybot's updating has always been somewhat flakey
from my experience with it..

Of all the spyware removers, Spybot is the only one which crashes my machine
part way through a scan (unless I turn off the antivirus engine). I got fed
up with this, it never found anything significant anyway, except a few
tracking cookies and a change to the default action for REG files (which was
intentional).
So, now I stick with Ad-aware, Spywareblaster etc and give Spybot a
miss........
YMMV.

AFAIK there has only been one update of Spybot S&D 1.3 since it released.
This was tagged as a beta and you'd have to have beta updates selected in
the options for it to show.

You're unlucky with Spybot,.. but assuming that it never finds
anything significant is an underestimation of a potent tool.
But if you run Ad Aware, Spywareblaster and some other tools,... see:
http://www.nondisputandum.com/html/anti_spyware.html,.... perhaps you
can live without Spybot anti spyware... though I would not want to
miss it's new registry surveillance tool.
