Off-topic....Spybot S&D update

I'm using a PC running XP Home SP1. I'm currently using Spybot S&D
version 1.2. A few days ago, version 1.3 was released. Yet when I run
Spybot's update tool, I'm repeatedly told no new updates are available. Is
it just a matter of time before the new version is added to the Spybot
update servers? Or is it even possible to update to a new version that way?
Perhaps one must manually uninstall version 1.2, and then install 1.3?

The word in the WinME NG's is to uninstall before installing the new
version.

I have read that advice on other forums too. I'm still wondering if
the new version of Spybot (1.3) will ever be available thru the program's
own update tool. I'd prefer to upgrade that way.

I downloaded 1.3 and then installed it without uninstalling 1.2 and
had no problems.

I did that on another computer I own, and discovered that both
versions were listed in the Start Menu. No big deal, just something I
discovered.

I downloaded 1.3.5rc from MajorGeeks.com last week and
installed it over 1.2 with no problems. Downloaded it for a
friend this morning and it is now

1) It's generally recommended to remove a prior version of
a program before loading a new version, 2) Since SpyBot
1.3 was just released about 2 days ago, I wouldn't expect
any updates for awhile . . .

I would recommend just uninstalling, downloading the latest, installing it
and using it. I don't think the upgrade will be available through the built
in update function. Upgrade and updates are two different things in this
case.

That is what I did last night. Everything went fine.

Thanks for the heads up! I've been busy lately and wasn't
aware of the new release.

Not necessary. I installed it without uninstalling 1.2 without any problems.
I had 1.2 in a sub-folder called 'SpyBot S & D V1.2', in a main folder named
'Utilities' - it found & went straight to that sub-folder and asked whether
I wanted it installed there. I didn't even have to change the original Start
Menu shortcut, just renamed it to 1.3 & deleted the new one from the
Desktop.
