Spoolsv.exe

Hello,

I have installed Win2k SP4 on several PCs and on 2 of them
I am receiving the following error messages when the PC
boots up.

Spoolsv.exe - Entry Point not found: The procedure entry
point OpenPrinterA could not be located in the dynamic
link library SPOOLSS.dll.

If you click ok on the error it will not reappear and the
users seem to be able to print ok with no other problems
or error messages.

If you set the print spooler to manual and re boot the PC
the error does not appear, even when you start the print
spooler manually.
It only appears when the print spooler is set to start
automatically.

Have tried removing the SP4 but this did not make any
difference.
Have also removed all printers from the PC.

THese are Win2k sp4, connecting to a NW5.1 server using 2
different versions of Novell client.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Stuart

I solved this problem in an NT4 environment by doing the following... You
may have to adapt this for windows 2000.

Open the registry with regedit

Go to HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Print

Backup this entire branch by selecting export registry file from the file
menu (just in case).

Look for
HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Print/Monitors/hpmastermonitor

If you see this key, delete it. Stop and restart the spooler and see if the
error is gone. It fixed mine and did not break any
print functions.
