After trying to print an article from the web I received the following
error:

spoolsv.exe Application Error
The instruction at "0x00fe4537" referenced memory at "0x01ee1000". The
memory could not be "read".

this is an Intel P4 1.8ghz w/512meg Ram. The laser printer is connected
as part of the home network, the inkjet is connected to USB and is
shared.

I can no longer get a list of printers or reinstall my KonicaMinolta
2430 printer from the install cd. Recovering to a previous date did not
solve the problem either. My local Computer tech tells me the only
solution is to reinstall WindowsXP and suffer the loss of my programs
and data.

What can I do?

Update:

Searched the web some more and found a discussion regarding ImageWriter
problems and spoolsv.exe. Also information re: various viruses using
the name. Although my error msg. was not the same as those described I
may have found a solution.

Option 1. Turn off print spooling in admin services. (Do without).
Option 2. Turn off print spooling in printer properties. (Do without).
Option 3. Use Task Manager to turn off spooler then check printers list
and delete pending print jobs.

Option 3 worked for me.

I couldn't open the printer and faxes folder until I turned off the
spooler using Task Manager. After gaining access I discovered my
network printer had a pending job. Wasn't sure if the job was a
corrupted file causing the problem or was created while I was
investigating the problem but, selecting properties>clear all for the
printer seems to have solved the problem.

Haven't tried a reboot yet to see if it holds, I'll keep my fingers
crossed.
