Spooler (spoolsv.exe) runaway memory issue

Hello,

I hope one of you can point me in the right direction. I have a
Windows 2000 server that has a problem with the print spooler. As soon
as I do anything (refresh the printer list or view properties) the
spoolsv.exe process runs away with all of the memory and crashes. (it
takes lees than a minute to crash). The printer were shared but I have
unshared them. I have also change to them to not spool and print
directly to the printer. I also changed the directory where the files
are spooled. I have not reinstalled the drivers (though the thought
crossed my mind).

Service Pack was applied to no change in the situation. There is some
speculation that this problem started about the time an Antivirus
program was loaded (but cannot be comfirmed.)

I'm scratching my head hoping to figure out why this happens.

Thanks and cheers.

Hi

I suggest you first uninstall the particular anti-virus software you
installed and see if that helps.
If that doesn't work you can try updating the driver and see if that helps.
You can even try reinstalling the driver.

This way at least you can rule out certain possibilities.

The aintivirus software ghas been removed. I downloaded the latest
drivers from HP for the printer and installed them. I have worked
with Support to move to the universal drivers all to no resolution.

Still looking for a source. Suggestions welcome.
