Spooler fills up C: drive

Greg

I've run across several situations where my users, after
printing over months and years, fill thier C: drives
with .tmp files in the C:\winnt\system32\spool\printers
directory. Cleaning these out aren't a big problem for we
sho support the enviroment, but since our user's do not
have admin rites they are not allowed to access the
directory.

We use HP drivers in almost every case. and i was
wondering if it's a bug of the OS or of the drivers or of
the lack of admin rites.

any ideas?

thanks

There was a bug fixed in Win2k SP3 that dealt with the tmp file not deleting
after the job has printed. The Port has to be Standard TCP/IP Port (but I
assume the same would be true with HP Standard TCP/IP Port) with the port
configuration in LPR mode and Byte Counting enabled.

Is this configuration clients with local printers or a client server
scenario?

For the client side you could apply the latest service pack or open the
spool directory for everyone with remove privileges.

If this is Server - Client scenario, SP3 on the server should fix this.
